Accept what you can't change...

...change what you don't accept.

A few weeks ago my friend Sheena was staying at my house before her big move back to Hamilton. I miss her every day, but I'm glad I got to spend so much time with her before she left. These are a few quick shots we did in my basement on one of our last nights. Simple black and whites with a bit of attitude and a whole lot of beauty!

Miss you lady!

Worst blogger in the world award?

I win!

Let the updates begin! To start, my boudoir marathon went really well, and I, as well as everyone else, had a great time! Everything ran really smooth and the time slots worked perfectly. I'm really happy with that - it was my first ever shoot like this and I was worried I'd run into time-issues. I'm considering having another one just before Christmas so keep a look out! I'll be sure to post well in advance...we all know how busy December is!

ANYWAYS

Due to the nature of some photos and the clients wishes, I'm not going to be posting a lot of them online, but here are a few favs!
April was a ball of energy and we got some really awesome and hilarious shots. Plus, come on, look how gorgeous!

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentines Day! I know I did, and despite what this photo might lead you to believe, it was a super splendid day. This is a quick one I took while Cale was in the shower.

Help!

I've been eyeballs deep in editing! My boudoir marathon went amazingly well and I can't thank my team and clients enough!

What to expect over the next week? A boudoir post, a shoot with my friend Sheena, and I'm thinking about creating a tutorial for the "floating" pictures I've done that everyone always asks about!

Lots of things going on! For now, it's back to editing for me!

Fort in the Forest

On Thursday, Erika and I ventured into the woods to build a fort! I got a whole bunch of scrap fabric from a thrift shop here in Windsor, and tied them up to a nicely fallen tree. We placed a couple afghans down on the ground for a little "carpet," added some roomy touches and voila! A little home in the woods!

This was a rough shot of everything in place. It was a really fun afternoon! Thankfully the weather here has been unseasonably warm, and this day was no exception. Though it was a little windy, we managed to shoot for about 40 minutes without feeling chilly!

Here are a couple of my favs!

So excited for my boudoir marathon! Thank you to my wonderful ladies who booked with me, and thank you to everyone else who showed interest, but didn't get a slot! You haven't been forgotten. Future clients!! I'll be hosting more of these, and of course, can book sessions on a one-on-one basis any time throughout the year!

Wishing you a beautiful Sunday!
Check back later for my shoot with Erika!!

Who Sleeps?

I typically spend my evenings wide awake. I'm not sure how I ever got into this pattern of going to bed at 3a.m. and waking up at 9a.m., but it doesn't seem to really effect me during the day so I guess I'm alright - for now.

During the evenings I'm typically editing. Though I haven't had any shoots this week to edit, I did a little "back-tracking" while nostalgically flipping through last autumns wonderful vacation to Halibuton, ON. I've kept this week pretty shoot free as I have a prop-filled shoot tomorrow with my beautiful friend Erika, an entire day full of gorgeous ladies on Sunday for my boudoir marathon, and a "moody forest" theme with a vintage flare shoot scheduled for early next week. I'll be up to my eyeballs in editing! Maybe I'll make friends with 4a.m. haha.

Back to my edit from last night.

We stayed in the most amazing cabin. We had a stone staircase down to this cute little dock and what was (unfortunately) a dried up river. It worked in my favour in the end, as all the grasses were easily accessible and relatively dry.

This photo taken by my wonderful boyfriend and photographer Cale Best

This is the set up for the photo I'm about to post. I shoot with a Nikon D300s, and I had my wide angle on my camera, shooting at 16mm. That pretty little lady next to me is Chelsea - the BEST golden lab I've ever met ever! She was so adorable and always seemed to get so dirty. She loves mud. And me. She would not leave my side the whole time I was down there. Can you see her tennis ball? What a cutie.

SO this was the original shot...

...and this is what I did.

I used these textures that I found on Flickr, editing them each into their own layer. You can find more self portraits on my facebook page!

Music Monday ♪

SO excited for today! It's a big day if you know what's good!!

I'm an absolutely huge and adoring fan of Eisley. Eisley is from Tyler, TX and consists of sisters Sherri, Chauntelle and Stacy, as well as brother Weston and their cousin Garron. To say that they're the most talented family in the world would be a serious understatement. They're all amazing musicians, absolutely stunningly beautiful and have the best vocals ever. You should also check out their cousin Christie DuPree too, because she is just as mind-blowingly gifted.

ANYWAYS, enough fan-girling for one day. The purpose of this post is to celebrate the wonderful release of Stacy (DuPree) King's new single from her solo album entitled Sucré. It's beautiful! I'm so excited for her album.

You can listen to her single "When We Were Young" here.

I'm looking forward to Eisley's new EP on Feb. 14, catching them on tour on March 23 in Detroit, and Stacy's album on April 10!! What an exciting year for beautiful music.

Hope everyone had an amazing weekend!

Favourite Friday!

So I'm taking this year to seriously blog. I've started so many in the past but I've never followed through. I have thousands of bookmarks and photos and things that I want to share in a personal, thorough way. I'm thinking about sharing music, tutorials, my photos, experiences, things I like and personal goals. If I write about them, maybe it will make me more motivated to get things rolling!

SO Favourite Friday!

Over the last couple weeks I've really been organizing and rearranging things around the house. My favourite little makeover is my office space! I had a whole bunch of vintage frames (which I LOVE) that I purchased from an antique store in Chatham and an awesome antique birdcage that I got off kijiji.

I've got a lot of photo ideas that deal with this birdcage. I recently did a set of self portraits using the cage to cast a shadow. I tried it again with my friend Sheena just to do it without having to run back and forth with my self timer. Basically I set up a flash behind the cage, and had a reflector off to the side to light me up a little. Same set up with Sheena!

I want to take this bad boy outside and really get creative. I've got an idea in the works, and all I'm waiting for now is a cooperative weather day. I hate winter! Hopefully we'll be able to get this going in the next few weeks. I'll make sure to post about it here!

Here are some of the shadow photos I was talking about:

My love for shoes is maybe a little sick. However, I'm pretty good at talking myself out of buying shoes I know I'll never get to wear on a regular basis (hardest thing to do!), but that doesn't stop me from looking! I'm currently in love with platform boots. Talk about hot! As a photographer at fashion week I usually dress pretty simple - black all over, but lots of structure and texture. I sit in the pit all day, which gets extremely crowded, but I still like to look the part!

I'm considering buying there beauties for March when I go back to shoot! I just found this site yesterday while browsing Skunkboy Creatures. They're Promise Jocie Lace Up Platform Booties from Lulus. I'm in love with this site! So many cute items and their shoes are so well priced! In case you're ever in the spirit of  giving I'm a size 9! I like them all!!

Ok I couldn't resist...I just ordered them. =D
